Federal Government Bans Single-Phase Meters for Homes Larger Than 5 Marla

Lahore: The Pakistan federal government has imposed a ban on installing single-phase electricity meters in houses larger than 5 Marla, with NEPRA issuing a notification amending the rules for new connections.
Under the new regulations, a two-marla double-story house will receive a single-phase meter for a minimum load of 3 kilowatts, while single-story homes up to two marla will be allowed 1.5 kilowatts per connection. For properties exceeding two marla, users will receive demand notices to install three-phase meters.
All electricity distribution companies, including Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), have begun immediate implementation of the updated rules. Previously, households were permitted single-phase meters for one or two kilowatt loads, but larger homes will now require three-phase meters.
Customers installing three-phase meters will no longer qualify for the protected category and will be billed according to applicable tariffs. The move aims to improve load management and ensure efficient electricity distribution for larger residential properties.
