Government Announces Free Public Transport in Islamabad for 30 Days

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that, following the Prime Minister’s directive, public transport in Islamabad will be free for the next 30 days.

In a statement on the social media platform X, he said the initiative will start tomorrow and aims to provide relief to citizens amid rising inflation and increasing petroleum prices.

According to the Interior Minister, the Ministry of Interior will bear the cost of this measure, with approximately Rs350 million allocated for the purpose.

The government stated that this decision was made to facilitate the public during the ongoing economic pressures. Previously, Maryam Nawaz had announced free public transport in Punjab, along with subsidies for farmers and motorcycle riders.

Under the Islamabad plan, commuters using the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus, and Green Electro Bus will not need to purchase tickets.

In addition, in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz announced financial relief and subsidies for the agricultural sector, providing farmers with a Rs100 per litre diesel subsidy per acre to reduce farming costs. She also declared a subsidy for registered motorcycles, offering Rs100 per litre for up to 20 litres per bike.
