Rain and Snowfall Bring Cold Weather Across Pakistan; 30 Dead in KP Since March 25

Islamabad: Rainfall across the country and snowfall in northern areas have brought a fresh spell of cold weather to Pakistan, with reports of damage and casualties emerging from multiple regions.

Heavy rains and hailstorms triggered flood-like conditions in parts of Balochistan, including Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Kohlu, and Nasirabad, where the Frontier Corps carried out relief operations.

Meanwhile, snowfall in April across mountainous regions such as Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Naran, Swat, and Ziarat has intensified the cold.

Intermittent rains were also reported in various districts of Sindh and Punjab, while hailstorms in Dera Ghazi Khan and Fort Munro caused streams and hill torrents to overflow.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-related incidents disrupted normal life. In Peshawar, rainwater overflowed from drains onto roads, while separate incidents left four people dead and 19 injured.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 30 people have lost their lives and 85 have been injured in rain-related incidents across the province since March 25, many of them children. The report also stated that 140 houses were damaged, including 25 completely destroyed.

Rescue and relief operations are underway in affected districts including Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Upper Dir, Battagram, North Waziristan, and Tank. Authorities, along with Rescue 1122 and district administrations, have been directed to expedite relief efforts.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the current spell of rain will continue intermittently, with more rainfall expected between April 1 and 4.

Rescue officials have also warned that rising water levels in the Kabul River could pose risks. Authorities have urged residents, particularly those living along the Kabul and Indus River, to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary movement near riverbanks, and keep livestock away.

Under Section 144, swimming, boating, grazing animals, and unnecessary movement near rivers have been strictly prohibited to prevent any untoward incidents.
