Surveillance Cameras Stolen Along 200km Stretch of M-5 Motorway in Sindh

Sukkur:** A major security lapse has been reported on the M-5 Motorway in Sindh, where modern surveillance infrastructure has allegedly been stolen across a 200-kilometer stretch.
According to reports, the affected section spans from Sukkur to Rahim Yar Khan, where advanced surveillance and speed cameras, solar panels, lights, and poles have been removed by armed criminal groups operating in riverine (katcha) areas.
The situation is said to be particularly severe in Ghotki District, especially around the Jahan Khan forest area, where even the poles of cameras and solar installations have reportedly been uprooted. In addition, police security checkpoints in the area appear abandoned, with missing roofs, lights, and reflectors, indicating a complete lack of operational presence.
Reports also highlight that streetlights at motorway service areas are non-functional, while nearly 90 percent of recently installed solar reflectors are either damaged or missing.
Due to the theft or malfunction of surveillance systems, motorway police personnel have reportedly reverted to traditional methods, placing portable speed cameras along the roadside to monitor traffic and issue fines.
The incident has raised serious concerns about governance, security, and maintenance of major federal infrastructure projects, with calls for immediate action to restore safety and accountability on the motorway.
