AC’s Attempt to Close Bakery Without Notification Goes Viral, Sparks Social Media Reactions

Lahore: A video circulating on social media shows a local Assistant Commissioner (AC) attempting to seal a shop in Punjab following the reinstatement of the 10 PM closing time for businesses. However, the staff quickly clarified that it was a bakery, which is exempt from the 10 PM closure rule.

The video, showing the AC accompanied by media and security personnel, drew widespread attention and criticism online. Some users supported the bakery staff, while others questioned the government’s enforcement and the AC’s understanding of the rules.

Khurram Iqbal commented that none of the AC’s team informed her that bakeries are exempt from the 10 PM closure. Asad Toor sarcastically criticized Pakistan’s Civil Services Academy, claiming it has become a “TikTok academy” producing officials more concerned with social media than law enforcement.

Another user noted that the AC appeared unaware of the law while conducting the raid, while Javed Badr joked that she either forgot to check the rules or hadn’t read the government notification.

The Punjab government had reinstated the 10 PM closing time for markets, shopping malls, and shops after the special Ramadan relief period ended, mandating that all commercial centers close at the designated time.
