Gwadar Set for Economic Transformation as CBD Project Nears Launch

Gwadar: A major step toward economic development has been announced as the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) prepares to launch the Central Business District (CBD), a flagship project aimed at transforming the شہر into a global commercial and financial hub.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by DG GDA Moin ur Rehman Khan, where officials reviewed the project’s progress, strategic importance, and expected launch timeline.

Spanning over 2,585 acres in the West Bay area, the CBD is a key component of the Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan. Once completed, it is expected to serve as the city’s modern “downtown,” driving economic, commercial, tourism, and real estate activities.

Officials said the provincial government is in the process of allocating land for the mega project, after which it will be formally launched. The development will be carried out in phases over approximately eight years, beginning with core infrastructure.

The CBD will feature state-of-the-art business offices, international-standard hotels, residential apartments, shopping centers, conference halls, and cultural spaces. It will also include modern public amenities such as traffic management systems, parking facilities, walking tracks, cycling routes, and advanced public transport.

Key attractions planned under the project include amusement parks, an art and culture museum, a grand theater, a library, an international expo center, Gwadar Tower, marina parks, and seaside resorts—aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing the city’s global appeal.

DG GDA emphasized that Gwadar’s strategic location, secure port, and growing regional importance position it as a future global hub for trade, logistics, and shipping. He noted that the CBD launch would strengthen investor confidence and attract international investment.

The project will be financed through land sales, public-private partnerships (PPP), and joint ventures (JV), ensuring sustainable growth and increased economic activity. Authorities believe the initiative will generate employment opportunities and play a key role in Gwadar’s long-term development.
