Flash Flood and Landslide Risk in Balochistan Amid Heavy Rain; New Western Weather System Forecast from April 1

Quetta (Daily Qudrat News) – The Meteorological Department has issued a high-alert warning for Balochistan due to recent heavy rainfall, which has raised the risk of flash floods and swollen hill streams. Authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert.

In the past 24 hours, torrential rains in northeastern districts including Sibi, Harnai, Kohlu, Loralai, Duki, Bolan, and surrounding areas caused moderate to severe flooding in hill streams, while the water level in the Nari River also rose. A major flood surge of 72,000 cusecs passed through the Nari Headworks.

The Meteorological Department warned that over the next 24 hours, further rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Sibi, Harnai, Kohlu, Zhob, Musakhail, Barkhan, Kachhi, Loralai, and Bolan, which could trigger another flash flood. Residents have been strongly advised to avoid flood-prone streams and unnecessary travel.

Additionally, a new western weather system is predicted to enter southwestern Balochistan from April 1, expected to continue until April 4. During this period, heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds is forecasted for Quetta, Khuzdar, Kalat, Chagai, Kharan, Lasbela, Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, and Noshki, with some areas experiencing torrential rainfall and hail.

The Meteorological Department warned that heavy rainfall could cause flash floods in northeastern districts such as Khuzdar, Awaran, Kharan, Kalat, Mastung, Kohlu, Lasbela, Zhob, and Qila Saifullah, while landslides are possible in mountainous areas. Strong winds, hail, and storms may damage weak infrastructure, power lines, solar panels, and standing crops, and temperatures are expected to drop significantly. All relevant authorities have been directed to take proactive measures to handle any emergency situation.
