Anti-Government Protests Erupt in Bahrain Amid Arrests of Pro-Iran Supporters

Manama: Widespread protests have erupted across Bahrain following the reported death of activist Mohammed Al-Mousawi in custody, intensifying tensions between demonstrators and authorities.

According to reports, Al-Mousawi was detained at a checkpoint a few days earlier, and his body was handed over to his family on March 27. His death has triggered large-scale demonstrations against the government of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with protesters accusing authorities of repression and excessive use of force.

Videos circulating from various cities show demonstrators burning barricades and chanting slogans against the ruling establishment, while clashes between pro-Iran protesters and security forces have been reported in multiple locations.

According to Agence France-Presse, protesters are demanding that Bahrain align with Iran and call for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces, including the Fifth Fleet stationed in the country.

Human rights activists allege that several individuals have been arrested on serious charges such as treason and espionage merely for expressing sympathy with Iran or sharing protest-related content online. They also claim detainees are being denied access to legal counsel and have called for a transparent investigation into Al-Mousawi’s death.

However, government officials have rejected these accusations, stating that all citizens are treated equally under the law and that no one is being targeted on religious grounds. Authorities insist that those arrested will be granted full legal rights and due process.

The unrest comes at a time of heightened regional tensions involving Iran and the United States, raising concerns about further instability within Bahrain.
