GCC Demands Sustainable Security Guarantees from Iran, Says Temporary Ceasefire Insufficient

Riyadh: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called on United States to provide long-term security guarantees against Iran’s drone and missile capabilities, warning that temporary ceasefires alone cannot ensure lasting peace in the region.

In a statement, the GCC emphasized that real security requires robust defensive cooperation to neutralize persistent threats, including Iran’s support for armed factions in areas such as Yemen and Gaza. Until concrete measures are implemented, the council argued, temporary peace arrangements are insufficient.

Ibtisam Al-Karbi, president of the Emirates Policy Center, noted that the primary challenge is not merely halting the current conflict but protecting the region from potential future threats posed by Iran. Similarly, Yousef Al Otaiba warned that unless Iran’s military capabilities are curtailed or subjected to strict international sanctions, the country could threaten the global economy even during periods of supposed peace.

The GCC urged the international community, particularly the United States, to move beyond statements and engage in active diplomacy and practical measures to establish a sustainable framework for regional security, ensuring that no state retains the ability to act aggressively.
