Woman Abandoned at Birth Reunites with Parents After 28 Years

Islamabad: In an emotional story from China, a woman who was abandoned in a toilet by her grandfather immediately after birth has been reunited with her biological parents after 28 years.

28-year-old Hong Yang Li was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, as the third child of her family. According to her mother, Yang Xiaoning, the girl’s grandfather took the newborn the day after her birth, claiming he would care for her. At the time, Yang Xiaoning was weak after childbirth, and her husband was away for work, so she reluctantly agreed.

Tragically, the grandfather, who preferred male grandchildren, abandoned Hong Yang Li in a toilet in another village. Her parents spent years searching for her but were never informed of her whereabouts.

Hong Yang Li was found by a passerby, who cared for her for two years before she was placed in a local welfare home. She was later adopted by a Dutch family and taken to the Netherlands, where she was raised with love but always wished to find her biological parents.

In December 2024, Hong submitted her DNA to a Chinese database designed to reunite missing children with their families. Using this data, authorities identified her real parents. On March 14, she returned to her ancestral hometown, where she was warmly welcomed with flowers and fireworks.

Despite not speaking Chinese, Hong was moved to tears during the emotional reunion, aided by local translators. Her parents expressed their gratitude to the Dutch couple for raising her and said they respect her choice to live wherever she wishes—either in China or the Netherlands.

This remarkable reunion highlights the power of modern DNA technology in reuniting long-lost families.
