Rain and Snow Hit Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Weather Turns Cold

Peshawar: The upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced rainfall and snowfall over the mountains under the influence of a western weather system, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures.

The cold weather has returned to Peshawar city and its surroundings, following heavy rainfall yesterday that reversed the brief warmth. In the Lower Chitral area, Garam Chashma also recorded fresh snowfall, increasing the chill.

Peshawar remains cloudy and cold today, with 5 mm of rainfall recorded on Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall measurements at various locations include: Peshawar Airport 7 mm, Chitral 6 mm, Timergara 9 mm, Upper Dir 13 mm, Mirkhani 8 mm, Kalam 1 mm, and Dras 6 mm.

Most districts of the province are partly cloudy, while the upper districts are expected to remain cold in the mornings and nights. Rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also likely in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Torghar, Mohmand, Bajaur, Khyber, and Kurram districts.

Rain and snowfall that began early in the morning in Upper and Lower Dir have now eased, but heavy clouds still cover the sky with intermittent sunshine. Snow has fallen in upper areas including Wadi Kumrat, Jahaz Banda, Badgoi, Ban Shahi, Lowari Tunnel, and Kalpani. The water level in the Panjkora River has risen.

With the return of cold weather, residents have resumed using warm clothing.
