PTI Considers Independent Decision-Making if Imran Khan Remains Inaccessible

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is considering allowing its parliamentary leadership to make key political decisions independently if meetings with party founder Imran Khan remain restricted for an extended period.

According to internal party sources, the proposal emerged during a meeting of the PTI parliamentary committee, where members discussed the challenges of continuing political and parliamentary activities without regular consultations with the party founder. Participants noted that if access to Imran Khan is not restored within the next month, the party may adopt a clear mechanism to make important political and parliamentary decisions on its own.

Some members suggested consulting the party’s political committee to ensure collective decision-making on key matters. Discussions also focused on PTI’s participation in parliamentary standing committees, with differing views among members on whether the party should return to these committees or maintain its earlier decision to resign from them.

Several participants emphasized the need to maintain representation in parliamentary forums to effectively raise public issues. They argued that returning to standing committees could help ensure PTI’s continued role in legislative oversight and policymaking.

The meeting also reviewed concerns raised earlier over the Public Accounts Committee of Pakistan, which had led to the party’s collective resignation from all standing committees. Some members proposed leaving the final decision on the Public Accounts Committee to Imran Khan while allowing the party to rejoin other parliamentary committees.

Party members also discussed the possibility of delegating clearer authority for administrative and parliamentary decisions to designated leaders, similar to the powers reportedly granted to certain political figures by the party founder. The aim, participants said, is to ensure that PTI’s political and parliamentary activities continue in an organized and effective manner despite ongoing limitations on direct consultations with its leader.
