Islamabad High Court Clears Registrar Objections in Toshakhana-II Case, Assigns Appeal Numbers for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has cleared the objections raised by the Registrar’s office in the Toshakhana-II case and ordered that appeal numbers be assigned to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo heard the request to remove objections regarding the alleged late filing of appeals by Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Bushra Bibi.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, appeared before the court, while PTI founder’s sister Alimia Khan, Salman Akram Raja, and Intizar Panjota were also present in the courtroom.

During arguments, Salman Safdar expressed frustration over delays in receiving power of attorney documents, stating that he represents over 300 cases and was unable to obtain signed documents despite assurances from the Chief Justice. He said, “I filed this request with a heavy heart because the power of attorney documents were not signed and handed over to me.”

Justice Somroo responded, “You need not kneel; we have also stood by this issue for 21 years.” Salman Safdar further explained that even in division bench hearings, obtaining the signed power of attorney has been a challenge, adding that the Adiala Jail superintendent is not providing the required signatures.

After hearing the arguments, the Islamabad High Court removed the Registrar’s objections and ordered that appeal numbers for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be issued.

Salman Safdar requested the court to schedule a future hearing date. Justice Somroo remarked, “Your appeal appears before us every week; there is no issue from our side.”

After the hearing, PTI founder’s sister Alimia Khan inquired about the appeal numbers near the rostrum. Smiling, Justice Somroo assured her, saying, “Don’t worry, the numbers will be assigned; the order has been issued.” He also complimented Salman Safdar, saying, “Your lawyer is very capable,” to which Safdar replied that he would convey the message.
