Question:** How much fidya (compensation) is required for one missed fast?

Answer
According to the Qur’an, the fidya for missing one fast is the equivalent of providing **two meals to a needy person**.
Each person should give fidya according to their means and financial ability. Allah says in the Qur’an:
*”Whoever volunteers a good beyond the prescribed fidya, it is better for them”* (Surah Al-Baqarah: 184).
The amount for fidya is the same as for Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr). Therefore, based on financial capacity, one can pay:
* **2 kg wheat**, or
* **4 kg barley**, or
* **4 kg dates**, or
* **4 kg raisins**, or
* **equivalent value in cheese**
In Pakistan, the minimum fidya or fitrana is usually calculated as **2 kg of wheat or its equivalent in money**. This represents the minimum obligation, but giving more is considered virtuous.
