Major Update for Citizens: Key Changes Introduced in National Identity Cards

**Islamabad:** The government has announced significant updates to the security features of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) issued National Identity Cards (NICs). A notification has been issued approving modifications in the verification and security features of the identity cards.

Under the new rules, fingerprints and iris scans are formally included as part of the verification process. QR codes now hold official legal status as a security and verification feature, enabling instant offline and online verification.

The QR code and other technological features can be used as alternatives to microchips. In case a card is suspended, all associated verification and authentication services will also be immediately deactivated.

Additionally, citizens over the age of 60 will now be eligible to receive a lifetime smart identity card, enhancing convenience and long-term security.
