Construction of Pipri Multi Logistics Park Accelerates to Modernize Karachi’s Port Cargo System
Islamabad: Work on the Pipri Multi Logistics Park is progressing rapidly under the Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force, aiming to modernize Pakistan’s port cargo transportation and logistics infrastructure.
According to Engineer Altaf Qadir Bajwa, Project Director of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) Sindh, the Rs2.46 billion project is being developed jointly by the National Logistics Corporation and DP World. The project includes the construction of a 1.5-kilometre railway link connecting Port Qasim and Karachi Port to enhance cargo movement.
He said that the Pipri Railway Freight Container and Multi Logistics Park will feature modern warehousing facilities, container storage areas, vehicle parking spaces, and administrative blocks. The project also includes a 37,700-square-metre hard-standing area with the capacity to accommodate up to 260 containers and trucks simultaneously.
Engineer Bajwa explained that trailers arriving from upcountry destinations will be redirected to the Pipri Logistics Park, where cargo will be transported to the ports by rail. This initiative is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of cargo handling and transportation.
The project is also expected to reduce traffic congestion in Karachi by decreasing the number of heavy trailers entering the city by an estimated 250 to 500 vehicles. By streamlining cargo movement and strengthening connectivity between logistics facilities and seaports, the Pipri Multi Logistics Park is set to play a key role in modernizing Pakistan’s maritime and logistics sectors.
Officials believe the project will enhance port operations, improve supply chain efficiency, and support the country’s growing trade and transportation needs.
