Over Rs8 Billion in Financial Irregularities Uncovered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Security Deposit Accounts

An audit review has revealed financial irregularities exceeding Rs8 billion in security deposit accounts across 18 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 2007 and 2024, raising serious concerns about financial oversight and accountability.
According to official documents, bogus payments amounting to Rs55.3 million were made to contractors from security accounts. Additionally, suspicious payments worth Rs108.2 million were identified under the security head. Authorities stated that the legal status and nature of these transactions are currently under further examination.
The report also disclosed that development funds totaling Rs535.4 million were illegally transferred. A significant discrepancy of Rs6.3 billion was found between digital and manual account records, highlighting major weaknesses in the province’s financial monitoring system.
Moreover, pension payments amounting to Rs259.6 million were allegedly made unlawfully. In five districts, including Peshawar and Bajaur, financial records worth Rs1.23 billion have been declared suspicious.
Sources said relevant authorities have been informed following the identification of these irregularities, and action is expected to determine responsibility. Officials emphasized that final accountability will be established after a comprehensive investigation, and strict legal action will be taken if negligence or corruption is proven.
