Sewerage, Drainage Project Inaugurated in Mullah Karim Bakhsh Ward under Gwadar’s Clean and Green Vision

GWADAR: Provincial Assembly member and Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan chief Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman inaugurated a sewerage, drainage and street pavement project in Mullah Karim Bakhsh Ward under the Old Town Rehabilitation Plan of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by GDA Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan, Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Vice Chairman Gwadar Municipality Saifullah Hot, former Chairman Sharif Mian Dad, local councillors, elders and a large number of residents. The officials unveiled the project plaque and inspected the completed work.

Assistant Director Environment GDA Yahya Wadil briefed participants that the project includes repair, maintenance and new construction of sewerage lines in Mullah Karim Bakhsh Ward and other areas of Old Town Gwadar. The project cost Rs52.944 million, commenced in July 2024 and was completed in February 2026. It includes installation of 6,676 running feet of UPVC pipelines (8, 12 and 14 inches), construction of 170 new manholes, 250 house chambers and raising of manholes.

Speaking to the media, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman said the sewerage and drainage system in the area had remained severely affected for years, causing difficulties in movement and frequent complaints of water entering homes. He said that due to GDA’s efforts, significant progress has been made in resolving this longstanding issue and residents are now witnessing visible improvement.

He added that 2026 will be observed as a “Clean and Green Gwadar” year, with all institutions working together to make the city cleaner, greener and more beautiful. He also urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and civic improvement.

DG GDA Moin ur Rehman Khan said the authority is not only working on major development schemes aimed at transforming Gwadar into a modern and smart city, but is also implementing projects to improve basic facilities and the quality of life for local residents, particularly in Old Town. He noted that the sewerage and drainage issue in Old Town was a major challenge, which has now been largely addressed, while additional projects are also underway to provide further relief to the community.
