Supreme Court Holds Full Court Session, Unanimously Approves Key Amendments to Rules 2025

Islamabad: Under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, the Supreme Court convened a full court session in which key amendments to the Supreme Court Rules 2025 were unanimously approved.

According to the official statement, the amendments were made based on recommendations of a specially formed committee established under Order I, Rule 1(4) of the Supreme Court Rules 2025 to address challenges encountered during implementation.

The committee, comprising Justices Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, reviewed the Supreme Court Rules 1980 in detail, drafted the 2025 Rules, and proposed measures to simplify complex legal provisions. The full court lauded the sincere efforts of each committee member, describing their contribution as “significant and commendable.”

The updated Rules aim to enhance service delivery, improve the judicial system, and provide faster and more affordable justice to the public. The full court also unanimously approved Advocate Muhammad Munir Pracha as a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court under Order IV, Rule 5 of the Rules 2025.

The Supreme Court officially announced that the Rules 2025 have now been fully updated.
