Actors Get Work Based on Social Media Presence, Says Nadia Afghan

Lahore: Renowned Pakistani actress Nadia Afghan has shared her views on the growing influence of social media in the entertainment industry, stating that actors today often secure projects based on their online presence rather than solely on their acting skills.
Speaking recently on a television show, Nadia Afghan said that social media is no longer just a platform for communication but has evolved into a full-fledged business and a significant source of income. According to her, producers and directors now consider an actor’s social media following when casting for projects.
Nadia Afghan rose to fame through the popular sitcom Shashlik and has since appeared in numerous successful television dramas. Her recent performances have also received praise from critics and audiences alike.
During the interview, she addressed the culture of display and showmanship among celebrities on social media. “Social media is the real business these days. It is a source of earnings, which is why actors are offered work based on their social media presence. Even though I and others are good actors, those with larger followings are often given preference — and that’s understandable; it’s the demand of the time,” she said.
The actress also revealed that she has been studying Islam and has concluded that individuals should keep their private lives discreet. “We are taught to keep our personal matters private. One should maintain a low profile,” she explained. She added that she has stopped sharing many aspects of her personal life online and now only discusses personal matters with a few close friends, citing concerns such as the evil eye.
However, Nadia Afghan clarified that completely quitting social media is not possible, as it has become a professional necessity. “It is difficult to leave social media entirely because it is now part of the job. But I prefer to keep my personal life more private and secure,” she concluded.
