7-Day Polio Vaccination Campaign Underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Action to Be Taken Against Parents Refusing Vaccination
Peshawar:The 7-day anti-polio vaccination campaign is currently underway across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar. The provincial government has decided to take strict action against parents who refuse to vaccinate their children during this campaign.
This year, 18 polio cases have been reported in the province, with 9 cases from Dera Ismail Khan, 3 from Tank, 2 each from Laki Marwat and Kohat, and 1 each from Mianwali and Nowshera.
During the week-long campaign, the target is to vaccinate over 6 million children across the province. In Peshawar alone, 800,000 children are to be vaccinated. However, due to security concerns, the vaccination campaign will not be carried out in Kurram District.
According to Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, 42,000 teams have been formed for the polio campaign, and 54,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the vaccination teams.
Chaudhry further mentioned that the polio campaign in Kurram District has been postponed due to recent security threats in the region.
