T20 World Cup: South Africa Beat Afghanistan After Thrilling Second Super Over

Ahmedabad: In a dramatic ICC T20 World Cup group match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa defeated Afghanistan in a nail-biting contest that went to a second Super Over.

South Africa posted 187/6 in their 20 overs after being invited to bat first by Afghanistan. Quinton de Kock scored 59 and Ryan Rickelton contributed 61, sharing a 114-run partnership for the second wicket. For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai took 3 wickets, Rashid Khan 2, and Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed one.

Chasing 188, Afghanistan were bowled out for 187 in their 20 overs, with a brilliant 87 off 42 balls by Rahmanullah Gurbaz (including 7 sixes and 4 fours), while Azmatullah Omarzai scored 22 and Rashid Khan added 20. South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi took 3 wickets.

With scores tied, a Super Over was played in which Afghanistan batted first and scored 17 runs. South Africa also managed 17 in response, forcing a second Super Over. In the decider, South Africa batted first and scored 23. Afghanistan could only muster 19 off six deliveries in reply, handing the Proteas a thrilling four-run victory.
