Shaheen Shah Afridi Blocks Afghanistan Captain Rashid Khan on Social Media After Controversial Tweet

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has reportedly blocked Afghanistan’s cricket captain and star leg-spinner Rashid Khan on social media following a controversial tweet by the latter.

According to reports, Rashid Khan had posted a tweet about the tragic deaths of three Afghan club cricketers, using harsh language that appeared to target Pakistan. In response, Shaheen took the step of blocking Rashid, signaling his disapproval of the remarks and reaffirming his commitment to national dignity.

Both players have shared a strong bond, having represented *Lahore Qalandars* together in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where they won the championship under Shaheen’s captaincy.

The incident comes amid growing tensions following statements by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Afghanistan Cricket Board, which indirectly suggested that the Afghan cricketers had been deliberately targeted—without naming Pakistan.

Observers have noted the ICC’s silence on India’s politicization of cricket during recent tournaments such as the Asia Cup. Historically, despite Pakistan’s support in helping Afghanistan gain ICC Test status, the Afghan Cricket Board has often aligned itself with the BCCI on major issues.
