Major Breakthrough Expected on Pakistan–India Match Ahead of ICC T20 World Cup

LAHORE: A major development is expected within the next few hours regarding the much-anticipated Pakistan–India match in the ICC T20 World Cup, sources said on Monday.

According to sources, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan to attend an emergency meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC). An ICC reconciliation delegation is also expected to arrive in Pakistan within the next few hours.

Sources said discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the ICC delegation will focus on the Pakistan–India match. The ICC has reportedly assigned its Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja the task of handling matters related to the high-profile fixture.

It was further stated that Aminul Islam is likely to participate in key emergency meetings involving the PCB and ICC. The heads of the respective cricket boards are expected to join the ICC meeting online.

Sources added that the BCB chairman is also expected to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, during which the current situation surrounding the T20 World Cup will be discussed in detail, along with other cricket-related matters. After attending the ICC meetings, Aminul Islam is expected to return to Dhaka later in the evening.

It may be recalled that Bangladesh had requested to host its T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka instead of India due to security concerns and alleged threats by Hindu extremist groups. The ICC rejected the request and subsequently excluded Bangladesh from the tournament, replacing it with Scotland.

In protest against the decision, Pakistan expressed full solidarity with Bangladesh and officially announced a boycott of its group-stage match against India scheduled for February 15.
