Imran Khan Brought to PIMS Due to a Serious Health Issue, Not a Minor One: Babar Awan

Islamabad: Senior lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Babar Awan has claimed that PTI founder Imran Khan was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) not for a minor ailment, as officially stated, but due to a serious medical condition.
Addressing a press conference outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad along with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Dr. Babar Awan said that authorities initially claimed Imran Khan was healthy, then stated that a medical team inside the jail was taking care of him. “We were told it was a minor issue, but Imran Khan was not brought to the hospital for a small problem; it was something serious,” he asserted.
Dr. Awan demanded that Imran Khan’s sisters be allowed to meet him and see his condition. He stressed that Imran Khan is a leader of the entire nation and should be released immediately, warning that the direction in which the federal government is taking the situation is “dangerous” and increasing public concern with each passing day.
Drawing a comparison, Dr. Awan said that during Nawaz Sharif’s illness, media ran continuous updates and all possible medical facilities were provided. “There are videos of mine where I clearly stated that full facilities were given to Nawaz Sharif,” he added.
Expressing serious concern over Imran Khan’s health, Dr. Awan warned that if a medical report is not made public, the consequences could be dangerous. “Earlier we asked why a bullet was fired, now we ask why an illness is being hidden,” he said, adding that Bushra Bibi was also not taken to hospital. He held the current “Form 47 government” responsible if anything were to happen to Imran Khan.
He further questioned why Imran Khan’s illness was concealed, saying the nation deserves answers. According to him, even Imran Khan’s sons were not informed about an alleged operation. He demanded immediate permission for Imran Khan’s personal doctors to meet him in jail and sought full details of any surgery performed.
Dr. Awan emphasized that staying in jail after an operation is dangerous for health and noted that prisoners have the legal right to seek treatment from doctors of their own choice at their own expense. “The reason for hiding the illness must be disclosed to the nation,” he said.
He also stated that there is no case against Imran Khan in which bail has not been sought, criticizing the government’s handling of requests for meetings with him.
Speaking on the occasion, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said that Imran Khan’s condition has been reported by international media and that there is global concern regarding his health. “Our one-point agenda is meeting Imran Khan and ensuring transparency about his health,” he said.
Barrister Gohar added that political tension has been at its peak for the past three years, with Imran Khan’s imprisonment being the root cause. “Every Pakistani is worried about his health, and his family is deeply concerned,” he said, demanding that doctors from Shaukat Khanum Hospital, including Dr. Faisal and Dr. Asim, be allowed to examine Imran Khan.
He concluded by saying that neither the party nor Imran Khan’s family has been properly informed about his health and treatment so far.
