Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon Criticizes TV Host Tabish Hashmi for Comments on Sindh Governance

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has strongly reacted to remarks made by popular TV host Tabish Hashmi regarding Sindh’s governance, calling them irresponsible and contrary to facts.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Minister Memon said that statements made on the TV program not only insult the people of Sindh but also reflect a lack of understanding of constitutional and administrative matters. He criticized Hashmi for commenting on a sensitive issue without complete information, which created misleading impressions among the public.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized that Sindh is a constitutional province, and its governance operates under clear laws and democratic structures, which cannot be treated as a subject of jokes or casual commentary. He further stated that making statements about privatizing Sindh or Karachi on television is both unserious and hurtful to public sentiment.
Highlighting the importance of effective governance, he said, “Karachi is the heart of Sindh, and solving its problems requires serious policy, resources, and collective efforts—not superficial remarks made on TV shows.”
The senior minister urged the concerned TV channel to take notice of the content aired and implement editorial measures to prevent similar statements in the future. “Media should promote responsible journalism and present public issues seriously, rather than for entertainment,” he added.
The controversy arose after Tabish Hashmi, in a program following the Gul Plaza fire incident, questioned the Sindh government’s governance of Karachi and suggested alternative ways to run the city. His remarks drew significant backlash on social media.
