Severe Winter Storm Paralyzes Life Across US, Leaves Seven Dead

Several states across the United States are facing one of the most severe winter storms in years, disrupting daily life and leaving at least seven people dead, according to American media reports.

The powerful storm has affected dozens of states, including Washington, New York, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Jersey, bringing heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and strong icy winds. In rural areas of New York, temperatures have plunged as low as minus 49 degrees, intensifying the crisis.

Severe weather conditions have led to widespread travel disruptions, with more than 16,000 flights canceled across the country. Additionally, over 800,000 consumers have been left without electricity due to the storm.

Reports indicate that emergencies have been declared in 24 US states as authorities struggle to cope with the extreme conditions. Meteorologists have warned that more than 240 million people across 40 states could be affected by the bone-chilling cold.

According to US media, Washington and surrounding areas are expected to receive between 6 and 10 inches of snow. As a result, federal offices in Washington are set to remain closed on Monday, while New York City authorities have announced a shift to online classes for schools.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, during a press briefing, said the state is experiencing its most intense winter storm in years. She described the cold as dangerous and life-threatening, warning residents to take the situation seriously. The governor revealed that temperatures of minus 34 degrees have been recorded in Watertown, while Copenhagen village has experienced temperatures as low as minus 49 degrees. Snowfall ranging from 8 to 18 inches is expected in various parts of the state.

Governor Hochul urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors for their safety.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the impact of the winter storm is expected to persist into next week, with extreme cold and hazardous conditions likely to continue across large parts of the country.
