Youth Should Be Recognized as Thinkers, Innovators, and Responsible Citizens, Not Just Students: President Zardari on World Education Day

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan’s future is directly linked to its young generation, emphasizing that access to higher education, financial assistance for deserving students, and improved access to technology are enabling youth to play an active role in the practical economy.

According to the President House media wing, President Zardari expressed these views in his message on the occasion of World Education Day. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan, especially students, teachers, parents, scholars, and all those associated with the promotion of education.

Referring to this year’s theme, “The Power of Youth in Shaping Education,” the President said it highlights the need to recognize young people not merely as students, but as thinkers, innovators, and responsible citizens whose ideas strengthen education systems and democratic societies.

President Zardari stated that Pakistan has a rich cultural heritage and a large youth population, making it essential to ensure that education nurtures curiosity, competence, and character, while also equipping youth with critical thinking, ethical values, and the ability to play a positive role in society. He noted that the constitutional guarantee of free and compulsory education under Article 25-A reflects the nation’s collective commitment to this fundamental right.

He further said that in a rapidly changing and interconnected global environment, education must integrate practical skills, modern knowledge, ethical values, and respect for diversity. Efforts to improve higher education, promote research and innovation, and expand digital learning reflect this evolving vision. Technical and vocational education and training, he added, play a vital role in equipping youth with employable skills and promoting the dignity of labor.

The President said national initiatives aimed at skills development are preparing young people to benefit from emerging technologies while aligning training with international standards. These efforts are creating opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and global engagement. He added that initiatives expanding opportunities for women, madrassa students, and youth from underdeveloped areas are promoting social harmony and ensuring inclusive growth.

President Zardari emphasized that education flourishes when families, communities, teachers, institutions, and the private sector work together, and when students themselves actively contribute to shaping their learning environments. He expressed hope that all stakeholders would recognize education as a national priority and empower youth to become partners in building a skilled, enlightened, and resilient Pakistan.

He concluded by praying that collective efforts would ensure peace, progress, and prosperity for future generations.
