Rescue Operation Underway to Evacuate Snow-Stranded IDPs in Tirah Valley

Peshawar: A rescue operation is ongoing to shift internally displaced persons (IDPs) stranded due to heavy snowfall in Tirah Valley of Khyber district to safer locations.

According to Deputy Commissioner Khyber Bilal Shahid, timely measures were taken under the supervision of the district administration, ensuring that all affected families remained safe. He said relief goods were delivered to Painda Cheena during the night, and stranded families were moved to a local school and hostel in the area.

Blankets were distributed among the affected families, while sweaters and other essential items were provided to children. The deputy commissioner said that prompt relief operations by the provincial government, the Pakistan Army, and the Frontier Corps ensured immediate assistance to all displaced families.

He added that relief activities continued from Nangrosa to Doah Toi and from Doah Toi to Larbagh, while clearance operations on other roads are still in progress. Under the supervision of rescue teams, children and women were evacuated first, followed by men.

The deputy commissioner further stated that snowfall is continuing, and as a precautionary measure, evacuation activities have been temporarily suspended. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and said that relief and evacuation operations will resume as soon as weather conditions improve.
