Pakistan Becomes World’s Third Largest Rice Exporter

**Islamabad:** Pakistan has emerged as the **world’s third largest rice exporter**, according to an international report published by **Gulf News**, marking a major milestone for the country’s agricultural exports.
The report states that at the **beginning of 2026**, Pakistan secured the third position globally after surpassing Vietnam in rice exports. In **December 2025**, Pakistan’s rice exports recorded a **14 percent month-on-month increase**, reflecting strong global demand.
A significant contributor to this success was the sharp rise in **Basmati rice exports**, which increased by **more than 50 percent**, strengthening Pakistan’s position in premium rice markets.
Data shows that Pakistan exported **489,000 tonnes of rice in December 2025**, while Vietnam’s exports during the same period stood at **387,000 tonnes**. This performance enabled Pakistan to overtake Vietnam and move into third place in the global rankings.
Pakistani rice was primarily exported to **the United Arab Emirates, China, Tanzania, Kenya, and Ivory Coast**, highlighting the country’s expanding footprint in both Asian and African markets.
Experts believe the growth in rice exports reflects improved production, competitive pricing, and rising international recognition of Pakistan’s rice quality, particularly its world-famous Basmati variety.
