Mahmood Khan Achakzai Appointed Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly
Islamabad: The National Assembly Secretariat has issued an official notification appointing Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
According to the notification, the Speaker of the National Assembly nominated Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Opposition Leader under Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, 2007. The appointment will take effect from January 16, 2026.
The decision comes at a time when Mahmood Khan Achakzai is leading an opposition alliance at the national level and remains politically active, particularly in connection with the planned protest movement scheduled for February 8.
Political observers believe his formal appointment as Opposition Leader will further strengthen coordination among opposition parties and shape parliamentary resistance in the coming days.
