Key Progress Toward Introducing Currency Notes with Advanced Security Features

Islamabad: The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has taken major decisions regarding the redesign of currency notes, the Hajj policy, and matters related to energy and the economy. The cabinet also ratified decisions taken in previous meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Energy and the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
During the meeting, the Ministry of Finance gave a detailed briefing on preparations to introduce new currency notes equipped with modern security features. The cabinet was informed that the new currency notes are being designed in line with contemporary international standards and requirements, and that the services of international experts have also been engaged for this purpose.
To further deliberate on the new designs of currency notes, the federal cabinet approved the formation of a special cabinet committee, which will review and finalize recommendations before implementation.
The cabinet also discussed the process of third-party registration and verification of private Hajj operator companies. It directed that the draft Private Hajj Policy for 2027–2030 be forwarded to the Hajj Policy Committee for further consideration.
In addition, the federal cabinet approved and ratified the decisions taken during the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy held on December 24, 2025, as well as the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee meeting held on December 23, 2025.
