No Chance of Snowfall in Lahore This Winter, Says DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia

Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has said that there is no possibility of snowfall in Lahore during the current winter season. He stated that relevant departments are continuously monitoring the weather situation.

Comparing this year with last year, he noted that temperatures have dropped; however, the overall volume of rainfall in Punjab has remained significantly low. In December this year, Punjab received only 2.5 millimeters of rainfall, which is about 75 percent less than the 11.2 millimeters recorded during the same period last year.

The DG PDMA said that dense fog has emerged as a major challenge across Punjab, adding that until rainfall occurs, there is little chance of improvement in foggy conditions.

He further informed that rain and snowfall are expected in Murree and the Galiyat region after January 17 and 18. Referring to previous trends, he said last year’s winter season lasted longer than usual, and this year too, the cold spell is likely to be prolonged as severe winter started later than normal.

Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized that climatic patterns are changing, and cold weather may persist until the beginning of March or even April. He warned that the intensity of the weather could increase after January 17–18.
