Sindh Government Rejects Global Karachi Ranking, Criticizes Miftah Ismail

Karachi: Sindh Government spokesperson Saadia Javed has strongly criticized former finance minister Miftah Ismail, urging him to focus on explaining his economic policies instead of criticizing Karachi.

Responding to Miftah Ismail’s recent press conference, Saadia Javed rejected the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report that ranked Karachi among the world’s least livable cities. She said the provincial government does not accept the survey, arguing that “paper-based indices do not always reflect the realities on the ground.”

She maintained that Karachi remains Pakistan’s economic hub and said negative propaganda would not undermine the city’s importance. The spokesperson also urged Miftah Ismail to engage in constructive politics rather than what she described as political point-scoring through press conferences.

Saadia Javed claimed that the people of Karachi are aware of the development work carried out by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), particularly in road construction and infrastructure projects.

The Sindh government spokesperson further blamed Miftah Ismail’s tenure as finance minister for economic policies that, she said, contributed to the country’s inflationary challenges. She added that the Sindh government is utilizing public funds responsibly and accused the former minister of making allegations for political publicity.

She also questioned the relief provided to the public during Miftah Ismail’s time in office, particularly regarding electricity bills, and said he should account for his own economic record before criticizing the provincial government.
