Journalist Apologizes to Saba Qamar After Controversial Remarks, Legal Notice Served

Lahore: Journalist Naeem Hanif has publicly apologized to actress Saba Qamar for making controversial statements about her, following a legal notice from Qamar demanding Rs10 crore in damages.

The notice stated that Hanif’s remarks were not only defamatory and gender-biased but also perpetuated the notion that a woman’s success depends on her connections with men rather than her talent or hard work.

Speaking on a podcast, Hanif admitted that his claims about Qamar were false and offered a sincere apology, acknowledging that his statements were baseless and misleading. In response, Saba Qamar shared a clip of the podcast on her Instagram story, captioned simply “Speechless,” reflecting her reaction to the apology.

The controversy began in November 2025, when Hanif claimed on his YouTube channel that Qamar had once lived in a house in Walton, Lahore, allegedly provided by an unknown individual. The claims quickly drew criticism on social media and within the entertainment industry.

Qamar strongly denied the allegations, stating that she never lived in Walton and labeling the statements as baseless attacks on her reputation. Several showbiz personalities, including actress Sahar Khan, voiced support for Qamar, condemning the spread of false and harmful narratives online.

Qamar also highlighted Hanif’s previous conduct on Instagram, sharing clips of his past remarks about other celebrities, including Fazaa Ali, Shoaib Malik, Sana Javed, and the late actor Yousuf, accusing him of spreading false stories and undermining hardworking individuals for attention and views.
