200 Kilos of Seized Hash Eaten by Rats, Accused Released Due to Lack of Evidence

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** A drug smuggling case in India took an unusual turn after the court was informed that 200 kilograms of seized hashish had reportedly been eaten by rats in a police warehouse, leaving no evidence for prosecution.

According to Indian media, the case was registered in Jharkhand, where police in 2022 stopped a vehicle on a national highway and claimed to have recovered a large quantity of hashish hidden inside. The seized drugs were reportedly worth millions of rupees.

During court proceedings, police officials stated that the hashish was stored in a warehouse, where it was allegedly consumed by rats, making it impossible to present as evidence. The court rejected this explanation, emphasizing that punishing a suspect without evidence is against the law. The judge held that the authorities responsible for safeguarding such a large quantity of drugs bore the accountability, leading to the accused being acquitted.

The verdict has drawn severe criticism of the Indian police, with experts calling it a serious concern for law enforcement agencies.
