Bangladeshi Information Advisor Says Must Respond to Mustafizur Rahman IPL Issue

**Dhaka (Daily Qudrat):** Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Advisor, Rezwana Hasan, stated that the country’s sentiments were deeply hurt over fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the IPL, and India had to be appropriately responded to.

She emphasized that Bangladesh is unwilling to accept the reasons cited for Mustafizur’s removal from the Kolkata Knight Riders team. Hasan noted that while sports and cultural exchanges generally reduce political tensions, India’s action went against this principle.

Commenting on her statement, Indian intellectual and politician Shashi Tharoor said, “She is absolutely right.” Mustafizur Rahman was released from the IPL team following threats from Hindu extremists.

Following the incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board convened an emergency meeting and recommended that the national team should not travel to India for the T20 World Cup. The sports advisor announced that player safety is the top priority and confirmed that Bangladesh will not send its team to India for the tournament.

Subsequently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board formally requested the ICC to relocate their T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka to ensure the players’ security. This decision is being seen as significant in the context of cricket relations and political tensions between the two countries.
