Usman Tariq Becomes Instant Superstar Ahead of India Clash, Says Former Cricketer Basit Ali

Islamabad: Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has praised Usman Tariq, saying no player has ever become such a big superstar against India without even playing a match.

Speaking on ARY News’ sports program, Basit Ali highlighted that the significance of the upcoming Pakistan-India encounter has increased following the Asia Cup controversy, where there were disputes over handshakes and Pakistan’s partial boycott of matches.

He noted that Usman Tariq’s entry in Pakistan’s next match against the United States completely changed the scenario. “Initially, Indian players claimed his bowling action was illegal, but now even former Indian cricketers acknowledge that Usman’s action is correct,” he added.

Basit Ali emphasized, “Kamran Akmal and I have played against India, and never has any player become such a huge superstar without even playing a match the way Usman Tariq has. Now the responsibility is on him to deliver on the field.”

Meanwhile, Indian players have reportedly begun practice sessions simulating Usman Tariq’s bowling style. A video shared by the International Cricket Council shows Indian cricketers practicing against a bowler mimicking Tariq’s unique action.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav commented on the sessions, saying, “Pakistan’s spin attack is strong. Usman Tariq is a different kind of bowler, but it’s good to prepare against bowlers of his style.”
