Imran Khan’s Exit from Political Scene Appears Near, Claims TV Anchor Iqrar-ul-Hassan

Karachi: Renowned television anchor Iqrar-ul-Hassan has claimed that the time appears to be approaching for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to exit the political scene, marking the end of his era in national politics.
Speaking in London, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said that Imran Khan, who is approaching the age of 74, has already played his role in life and politics. He stated that Khan made both good and bad decisions during his political career, committed several mistakes, and also took some correct steps. However, according to him, the signs now indicate that Imran Khan’s political chapter is nearing its conclusion.
He emphasized that after Imran Khan, the nation—particularly Generation Z—will have to decide the future direction of the country. “All of us, including Imran Khan and myself, will leave this world one day,” he said, adding that the real question is who will lead the country after Imran Khan.
Iqrar-ul-Hassan questioned whether the nation would once again accept the dominance of political dynasties, turn another individual into a long-term political idol after Imran Khan, or move toward establishing a system that allows organic leadership to emerge, enabling ordinary people to lead the country as seen in many other nations.
Referring to Generation Z, he said young people must realize that the “boomers” they often criticize include their own elders as well. He stressed that Pakistan’s problems cannot be solved by relying on one boomer or opposing another, as the issue lies beyond individuals.
Commenting on Imran Khan’s bail and possible release, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said that he sees no chance of bail for the PTI founder. He noted that Imran Khan himself has taken the stance that courts are not independent and cannot deliver justice. In such circumstances, he said, even if relief were granted by a court, it would be perceived as the result of pressure or a deal.
He further stated that Imran Khan’s release without a deal now seems unlikely. However, if Khan were to be released, it would strengthen the perception that his freedom came through a compromise, which could politically damage PTI.
According to Iqrar-ul-Hassan, Imran Khan is currently under pressure from the very social media narrative he helped create. He believes that if Khan were to secure his release through a deal, he would face severe criticism from the same circles, leaving him with no option but to remain in jail.
He also referenced journalist Imran Riaz, saying that the PTI founder personally wishes to be remembered as a hero after his death. While calling this a natural human desire, Iqrar-ul-Hassan argued that, unfortunately, this personal aspiration is currently contributing further to Pakistan’s ongoing challenges.
TV anchor and journalist Iqrar ul Hassan says Imran Khan is a boomer, it’s time for him to retire from politics, he’s too old now and he must step aside for the organic leadership growth. Gen Z must realise Imran Khan is a boomer and offers no hope of change.
