Karachi: Authorities have launched an investigation into a contractor and his company over allegations of causing financial losses worth billions of rupees to various departments of the Sindh government over the past three years.

According to details, M/s Ali Hassan Civil and Electrical Works allegedly secured contracts worth billions of rupees from different government departments but failed to carry out work on the ground. Despite receiving large sums, no substantial progress was reportedly made on the awarded projects.

The Anti-Corruption Department has initiated investigations against the company’s owners, Irfan Sheikh and Ghufran Sheikh, in connection with the matter.

As part of the probe, the investigating officer has written letters to the chief engineers of multiple departments, including Education Works, Public Health Engineering, Works and Services Department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and other relevant institutions.

In the letters, the investigating officer has sought detailed information regarding the number of contracts awarded to the company over the last three years, the extent of work completed, and the total payments made. The officer has also requested details of the executive engineers who authorized the payments to the company.

The investigation aims to determine the scale of the alleged irregularities and fix responsibility for the suspected misuse of public funds.
