Sea Water Turns Green from Pasni to Jiwani as Natural Phenomenon Identified

Pasni: The color of seawater from Pasni to Jiwani has turned green, raising curiosity among local residents. Experts have clarified that the change is the result of a natural seasonal phenomenon known as a Noctiluca bloom.

According to WWF-Pakistan Technical Advisor Moazzam Khan, the seawater has changed color due to the blooming of Noctiluca scintillans, a type of marine plankton. He explained that Noctiluca blooms typically appear every year between November and February and are part of a natural seasonal cycle, with no connection to pollution.

Moazzam Khan said the phenomenon is commonly referred to as “sea sparkle” and can appear in various colors, including red, orange, green, or even colorless. He emphasized that Noctiluca blooms are non-toxic and that no fish deaths have been reported in the affected areas.

He further added that during nighttime, the Noctiluca bloom can produce a blue bioluminescent glow in the sea. After the bloom subsides, a temporary odor may be noticed, which is also a natural process.

Experts have reassured the public that the change in sea color does not pose a threat to marine life or human health.
