Gwadar Ship Breaking Yard Water Filter Plant Fails, Locals Forced to Use Contaminated Water; BDA Technical AGM Faces Corruption Allegations

Gwadar (Daily Qudrat Quetta): Allegations of serious corruption and negligence have surfaced against Technical AGM Muhabbat Khan Babar of the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA) at the Gwadar Ship Breaking Yard. A water filter plant, constructed at a cost of millions of rupees, has been reportedly non-functional since its inception, forcing residents of Gwadar to fetch unsafe water using donkeys.
Sources claim that, under the pretext of maintenance, hundreds of thousands of rupees are spent monthly on the plant, but it fails to provide clean drinking water. Instead, water is allegedly distributed via a single tractor once a week to selected individuals, leaving ordinary citizens without access to potable water.
The ship breaking yard generates millions in tax revenue, yet the area shows no significant development. Critics argue that CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds intended for public welfare are being misused for personal wealth accumulation, with officials reportedly owning luxury vehicles and properties at the expense of public services.
Residents allege that BDA officials treat the local population with neglect and disregard. Technical AGM Muhabbat Khan Babar is said to lack experience in coastal areas and understanding of Gwadar’s local issues, showing little interest in public welfare.
Local communities have strongly urged NAB Balochistan, Anti-Corruption authorities, senior officials, and the BDA Chairman to suspend Muhabbat Khan Babar immediately and appoint a competent officer familiar with coastal areas. They stress that such action is necessary to ensure access to clean drinking water and essential development facilities for Gwadar city and surrounding regions.
