Local Government Elections: Government Considers Deployment of Pakistan Army and FC

**Quetta:** The federal government has decided to deploy the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC) during the local government elections scheduled to be held in Quetta district on December 28, in order to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.

According to official sources, the decision was taken on the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which sought enhanced security arrangements for the elections. The deployment will be carried out under Article 220 and Article 245 of the Constitution for the Pakistan Army, while the Frontier Corps will be deployed under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

Sources further stated that the Pakistan Army will be positioned as a third-tier security force, while the FC will serve as a second-tier force, both operating in a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) mode to respond swiftly to any untoward situation.

The move aims to maintain law and order and ensure a secure environment for voters, polling staff, and election officials during the local government elections in Quetta.
