Justice Tariq Jahangiri Challenges IHC Proceedings in Degree Controversy Before Federal Constitutional Court

Islamabad:* Justice Tariq Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has challenged the high court’s proceedings in the degree controversy case against him by filing an appeal before the Federal Constitutional Court.

Justice Jahangiri filed the appeal against the December 9 order issued by a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court, which held that the petition filed in the IHC was maintainable. In his plea before the Federal Constitutional Court, he has taken the position that the writ petition filed against him in the Islamabad High Court should be dismissed as non-maintainable.

Meanwhile, Justice Tariq Jahangiri has constituted a legal team comprising three senior lawyers to challenge the Islamabad High Court’s proceedings. Senior advocates Akram Sheikh and Barrister Salahuddin will represent him before the Islamabad High Court, while Advocate Uzair Bhandari will plead his case before the Federal Constitutional Court.

It has also been stated that Justice Jahangiri will file separate petitions in the Islamabad High Court against the proceedings related to the degree controversy.

It is pertinent to recall that during the previous hearing of the case in the Islamabad High Court, Justice Tariq Jahangiri had raised an objection to the presence of Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Sarfraz Dogar on the bench and expressed a lack of confidence in the bench.
