Drought Alarm in Balochistan: Severe Water Shortage Hits 11 Districts, Urgent Action Demanded

*Quetta (Daily Qudrat)* Pakistan’s largest province by area, Balochistan, is facing a critical drought due to significantly reduced rainfall. According to reports, 11 districts—including Quetta, Chagai, Gwadar, Kech, Kharan, Mastung, and Noshki—are experiencing severe water shortages, with concerns that Quetta’s situation could reach levels similar to Tehran.

The Meteorological Department reports that Quetta and Jiwani have not recorded rainfall for the past 314 days, while Panjgur has gone 234 days without rain. Local farmers have warned that declining groundwater levels are destroying crops and causing trees to wither.

Experts have urged the government to take immediate emergency measures, warning that failure to address the crisis could lead to a severe drinking water shortage and potentially trigger a serious humanitarian disaster.
