Alima Khan’s Bail Restored in November 26 Protest Case, Arrest Warrants Cancelled

Rawalpindi: The Anti-Terrorism Court has restored bail for Alima Khan in connection with the November 26 protest case and cancelled her arrest warrants. The court also rejected her plea challenging the framing of charges.

Alima Khan appeared in court along with her lawyer, Faisal Mahmood Malik, before Judge Amjad Ali Shah, with the public prosecutor Zaheer Shah and defense lawyers present. Eight prosecution witnesses were also in attendance.

During the hearing, Alima Khan’s lawyer argued that, according to the law, the accused and their lawyer must be present and sign during the framing of charges, adding that they had learned about the charges through media reports.

The prosecutor contended that the framing of charges had been conducted legally and accused the defense of employing deliberate delay tactics, noting that the plea was not filed within two months of the charges being framed.

After hearing arguments, the court restored Alima Khan’s bail and withdrew previous judicial orders issued due to her late arrival at the last hearing. Earlier, her bail bonds had been confiscated, and a contempt of court notice had been issued.

The trial is ongoing, and statements from prosecution witnesses have begun to be recorded.
