Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed’s Lawyer Announces Appeal Against Verdict to Army Chief

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) — **Mian Ali Ashfaq**, lawyer for former **ISI chief General (R) Faiz Hameed**, has announced that they will **appeal the verdict against him to the Army Chief**. He stated that they first became aware of the sentence through a press release issued by the **Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)**, as they have not yet received an official copy of the verdict.
Speaking to BBC, Mian Ali Ashfaq said that the case involved **90 hearings** during which they questioned witnesses with **over 8,000 questions**, many of which went unanswered. He emphasized that in their view, the case was **“thousand percent won”**, despite the court ruling, and they are determined to challenge it at the next forum.
According to the lawyer, **Faiz Hameed was charged on December 6** and the official trial began on **December 13 last year**. Mian Ali Ashfaq explained that the **first forum for appeal is the Army Court of Appeal**, with the **Army Chief also having the authority to hear appeals**. He noted that a Supreme Court judgment mandates the right of appeal within 45 days, which has yet to be implemented in the High Court.
During the proceedings, Mian Ali Ashfaq stated that **General Hameed remained calm and resilient**, spending **3 to 12 hours daily with the legal team**, and faced all challenges with strong resolve. He added that out of the 8,000 questions posed during cross-examination, the prosecution could not satisfactorily answer eight, which, in their assessment, strongly favors their client.
“Our position is that this case was won not just completely, but **thousand percent in our favor**, yet it is ultimately the court’s decision. We are hopeful that in the next forum, we will present our stance and achieve justice,” Mian Ali Ashfaq concluded.
