Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Likely to Face Pay Cut in Central Contracts

Mumbai: Former Indian cricket captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are reportedly set to face a downgrade in their central contracts, according to Indian media reports.

The potential reduction in pay comes as both players now primarily participate in One Day Internationals (ODIs), limiting their appearances across formats. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awards central contracts in four categories, with the top “A+” category receiving the highest remuneration.

BCCI had issued contracts in April 2025, but due to limited participation in only one format, Sharma and Kohli may lose their A+ category status. A+ category players earn ₹7 crore annually, whereas the A category offers ₹5 crore per year.

If downgraded, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would see a reduction of ₹2 crore in their central contract earnings. The pay cut reflects the lower match count due to their limited engagement in multi-format cricket.
