Karachi Imposes Ban on Rickshaws on 20 Major Roads from October 18 to December 17, 2025

Karachi: The city administration has imposed a ban on 1+2 and 1+4 rickshaws on 20 major roads in Karachi, effective from October 18 to December 17, 2025. The restriction has now been extended to a total of 26 key roads, with an official notification issued.

The decision follows recommendations from the DIG Traffic to regulate rickshaw movement and improve traffic flow. The ban has been enforced from Shahrah-e-Faisal to I.I. Chundrigar Road immediately.

To ensure compliance, the Commissioner of Karachi has invoked Section 144, and SHO officers have been instructed to register cases under Section 188 in case of violations. Deputy Commissioners and relevant departments have been directed to implement the orders strictly and promptly.

The ban aims to address public complaints, reduce traffic congestion, and prevent accidents on the city’s main thoroughfares.

Additionally, six more major roads have been included under the 1+4 rickshaw restriction based on new traffic police recommendations. These new roads will follow the same notification period as the previously restricted areas.

The roads affected by the ban include University Road, Korangi Road, Orangi Road, Super Highway to Malir Cantt, Maripur Road, and Shahrah-e-Pakistan to Sohrab Goth, among others. The measure has been taken to ensure public safety, smooth traffic management, and commuter convenience.
