Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Sign MoUs as PM Announces Target to Raise Trade Volume to $200 Million

Islamabad: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Thursday to enhance cooperation in tourism, energy, agriculture, and mining, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that bilateral trade would be expanded to **$200 million** in the coming years.

The MoU signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister exchanged the official documents.

The agreements also included cooperation on the use of Pakistani ports, the exchange of convicted prisoners, and the declaration of Bishkek and Islamabad as twin cities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan places great value on its brotherly and longstanding ties with Kyrgyzstan. He expressed gratitude to President Japarov for his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and announced the goal of increasing trade volume to **$200 million within the next two years**.

President Japarov, in his remarks, thanked the Pakistani government for the warm welcome and hospitality. He noted that Pakistan is an important partner for Kyrgyzstan in South Asia and highlighted the significance of a business forum aimed at boosting trade and investment.


He also underlined the importance of the CASA-1000 energy project, which he said would play a key role in meeting regional energy needs. The Kyrgyz President added that nearly **12,000 Pakistani students** are currently studying in Kyrgyzstan, reflecting strong educational and cultural ties between the two nations.

President Japarov arrived in Islamabad a day earlier on a two-day official visit, where he received a ceremonial gun salute upon his arrival.
